Seek God

Read Zephaniah 1:1 through 3:20

When a tornado warning is issued, all in the storm’s path are advised to seek shelter. When there is a flood warning, people are told to seek high ground. Zephaniah sounded a different kind of alarm. He warned of a time of judgment called the Day of the Lord. The correct response was to seek the Lord.

Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger (Zephaniah 2:3).

Zephaniah’s prophecies were partially fulfilled when Babylon invaded Judah and carried off its inhabitants. But the prophet also spoke of an event that has yet to come. New Testament writers linked the Day of the Lord to end-time events. Paul said that day will come unexpectedly, “like a thief in the night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2).

God is holy, just, and merciful. Those who reject His grace and go their own way will face His judgment. But everyone who sincerely seeks and serves Jesus can look forward to spending eternity in the shelter of His care.

Prayer Suggestion: Ask the Lord to search your heart and make you ready for His soon return.
