Where You Came From
Read Deuteronomy 22:1 through 24:22
There seems to be a reality TV show for every possible occupation. There are shows about entrepreneurs, dancers, singers, chefs, bakers, and models. The judges on these shows are notoriously hard on contestants, but every once in a while they show a human side. Invariably, these successful individuals reference struggles they had early in their careers and give a second chance to someone who reminds them of themselves.
Remembering where we came from is a powerful motivator when it comes to showing mercy to others.
Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. That is why I command you to do this (Deuteronomy 24:22).
The Israelites had been slaves in a foreign land. Remembering that would motivate them to take care of people who were strangers in their land. We too must remember the circumstances from which God has delivered us.
Challenge for Today: Find a way today to show mercy to someone who is facing a challenge similar to one you faced in the past.
Quicklook: Deuteronomy 24:17–22
